While I love to travel camera in hand, there's really no substitute for traversing well-known land looking for a new way to express it. Really makes you think.

MattAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27557058.post-49752068840549996122008-08-17T08:09:00.000-06:002008-08-17T08:09:00.000-06:00Going back to the same locations, even near your h...Going back to the same locations, even near your home base never hurts, because there is always a picture within a pictureDon and Sherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03181243798848915078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27557058.post-91255629441645415062008-08-16T02:51:00.000-06:002008-08-16T02:51:00.000-06:00I really liked this: "Most famous photographers bu...I really liked this: "Most famous photographers built their reputation photographing near by, what makes you think you should do differently."Juha Haatajahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00361255734892508254noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27557058.post-67335482958068538512008-08-15T21:01:00.000-06:002008-08-15T21:01:00.000-06:00George,Could you touch in the 3rd part on the subj...George,
Could you touch in the 3rd part on the subject of working with the light?
Do you scout a location and then return next morning at the first light? Or do you leave home with a 'whatever comes my way' mindset?
Countless times in my travels I find a scene that I absolutely love but it's 2pm and the light is harsh, or it's raining and there's never time to go back. But even if I could go back, I wouldn't know how to 'work a scene' with the light in mind.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17404148314460675903noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27557058.post-80785148087923347922008-08-15T13:51:00.000-06:002008-08-15T13:51:00.000-06:00Great. No need for anyone to visit up here...it's boring. Flat. Uninspiring. Not worth the effort.

By all means stick to the traditional photographic destinations. Don't worry about me, I'll manage somehow.

:)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27557058.post-88479666504608285472008-08-15T09:31:00.000-06:002008-08-15T09:31:00.000-06:00Enjoyed your post, as always. I'll have to read it a couple of time to fully digest.

I'll take this opportunity to answer your somewhat rhetorical question:

"Does the world really need any more Arizona slot canyon pictures?"

I'm not really concerned about the world, but I work in an office of about 50, and when I put a 17x25" print of Antelope on my wall, none of them had seen it before. Even a picture of Bryce was recognized by only one person. It may be cliché to the photographic community, but I'd guess (at least for the "lesser" icons - eg: Zion subway, Horseshoe bend, etc. etc.) that there would be unrecognizable by 95% of the population at large.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
