I did in fact try a multiple image blend for helicon focus for infinite depth of field but much preferred the blur. In fact I wonder if a tad more blur might have been even nicer but I didn't think to give myself a choice. Given how hard it is to judge something like this in the small slr viewfinder even with dof preview, I should have tried several f stops.
