WRT Brooks Jensen's thoughts on the practise of photography, I recently bought his book 'Letting Go of the Camera', available from Lenswork Publishing (http://www.lenswork.com/lwp.htm)
and I highly recommend it as a source of illuminating essays in a similar vein to yours, George. It's one of the most useful books on photography I have, even though it doesn't contain a single photograph :-)
