I prefer the vertical crop to the horizontal.
But there are elements in the horizontal I like better.
The parts I like best and in order of what draws my eye is first the vertical hose in the dark lower cavity. Next my eye enjoys the bent tubing, which forms interesting overlapping patterns. These are not as strong in the vertical. The belt on the generator also has nice tone, but the whole generator unit I guess is just to low in contrast with the remaining parts of image.

I have to agree with Niels--I prefer the vertical crop, also. I think it just looks more interesting, and the diagonals are more pronounced (and therefore have more impact) in the vertical version.
