Shooting For Self

I had liked this image but realized it would never sell so didn't do anything with it - pouring through old shoots tonight I rediscovered it and decided 'what the heck', since I like it, why not show it. It points out that something is lost when too much emphasis is placed on making shots to suit the market, or to please someone else, whether it be a gallery owner, art critic, paying public or members of the local camera club.

If I had more money, I would buy it George! Wonderful shot—I love the colours.

This is a fantastic image.

How did you get this vantage point?

The image was shot from balloon, floating about 100 feet up and drifting across Calgary. So far I have had one plane trip and one balloon trip and the balloon trip was far more effective for photography. Mind you it's challenging, you have very little time to see, compose and shoot images - very much like photographing sports.

And thanks gents for the nice comments.

I like the colours and I like the 'white' trees on the right of the photo.
I like to see the branches displayed like root systems. (if that makes any sense)

What a wonderful image, the mix of straight, gray roofs are a nice contrast to the organic, colourful trees. Looking forward to your next article on "getting to the next level".

This is a great image. It's abstract, colorful, and yet the subject is very recognizable. The perspective is revealing. It speaks more about suburban life than a lot of trendy art photography. Are you sure it wouldn't sell?

Beautiful image. Appeals from lots of different aspects - diagonals, shape of one roof echoed in another, colours, soft versus hard, order (straight lines, roof tiles) versus chaos (leaves). I think you should try making a colour print on fine art paper & seeing if you can sell it.
The aerial view and the colours remind me of your article last year on September 15, 'recropping' at

Are the images related in any way?

Regards

Alan

Alan is quite right, they were shot on the same balloon trip - I think I was lucky with the fall colours and not much wind at ground level and soft lighting. That one trip produced several images. I haven't had another chance to go ballooning to see - some day!
